people who unironically use multiple exclamation points in texts are the cutest fucking thing omfg. even mundane things are made cuter like “just got on the bus!!!! will be home soon!!!” like yeAH UR ON THE BUS U BIG CUTIE. I WILL SEE U AT HOME. LOOK BOTH WAYS BEFORE CROSSING THE STREET.
hank and john green are pro capitalism and anti patriarchy, anti racism, etc which is certainly an interesting position to be in considering that capitalism was both built off of and justified by these very things
I agree with you, it is weird. But maybe it’s not contradictory. When something isn’t working properly, you can either throw it away or try and fix it. I understand people who want to throw capitalism away, but I would prefer to fix it.
But what if it’s not fixable? Americans constantly want to act like socialism can only have one outcome that will be repeated forever but capitalism can be different? What is the inherent difference? If human nature will always destroy the good things that socialism could bring, why/how would it not always destroy the good things that capitalism could bring?
Like, I’m not trying to be an asshole, I’m legit curious how you feel on the subject, Hank. I would ask John too, but there’s no point while hes on hiatus from social media.
You can have socialism and capitalism. As evidence, I would like to present Exhibit A: The United States America, a socialist, capitalist republic. A place where you have to buy food, but primary and secondary education are free. You have to buy a car, but you do not have to buy emergency fire services (and yes, once upon a time building owners did have to buy the services of fire fighters.) And if you are hungry, there are systems to provide you with food (shitty systems, I admit, but systems.)
America is capitalist. America is socialist. I am a capitalist. I am a socialist.
We even have weird communist things. There are elements of banking (student loans) owned by the state. And both the post office and Amtrak are state-owned systems of industry and trade
America is, if nothing else, a glorious, terrifying mishmash of every goddamn thing. And, amazingly, it has worked for the last 239 years.
I honestly have no idea why it’s worked, but I’d bet that a lot of our strength is in not just picking one thing and having it be the supreme, above-all, absolute best system. Instead, we just fuck around until shit seems to work and leave it that way until it gets really fucking broken and then we fuck around with it more.
America…leaving shit alone until it gets super fucked up and then fucking with it and crossing our fingers since 1776.
Have you ever really thought about how when you look at the moon, it’s the same moon Shakespeare and Marie Antoinette and Van Gogh and Cleopatra looked at.
they all looked at the moon they’re all dead the moon is killing people wake up america
